Large fires broke out on Saturday evening in shops near the Old City of Jerusalem, witnesses said.
Three shops were entirely burnt in East Jerusalem, near the entrance to the Old City’s Damascus Gate, they said. Flames caused minor damage to a number of surrounding shops before Israeli firefighters were able to control the blaze.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident, which they believe started in public bathrooms next to the gate, Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post reported. No injuries were reported.
